Evolution of the Eight

with Sherry Harkins, ERYT-500, YACEP

September 18-19, 2027

Evolution of the 8-Limb Path is an exploration of yoga beyond the physical practice. It is an invitation to understand how ancient yogic philosophy can evolve with us and become a meaningful part of modern life.

Rooted in Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga, this course journeys through the Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. Rather than approaching the eight limbs as a rigid set of steps, we explore them as interconnected practices that offer guidance for how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us.

Throughout the course, we will examine the traditional teachings while creating space for personal inquiry and contemporary interpretation. We explore how principles such as non-harming, truthfulness, self-study, contentment, breath, concentration, and meditation can move beyond philosophy and become embodied practices in our relationships, choices, teaching, and everyday lives.

This is not simply a study of what yoga has been, but an exploration of what yoga can become when its wisdom is lived with awareness and intention.

Through philosophy, discussion, reflection, meditation, and embodied practice, Evolution of the 8-Limb Path encourages you to develop a relationship with yoga that is personal, purposeful, and continually evolving taking the practice beyond the mat and into the way you live.

Teacher Bio

Yoga found me during a season of life when I needed more than just movement—I needed a way to reconnect with myself. What began as a physical practice quickly became a lifelong journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth. That experience continues to shape the way I teach today.

As an ERYT-500 and YACEP, I have the privilege of guiding both students and aspiring teachers in discovering that yoga is not about perfection or performance, but about cultivating presence, resilience, and authenticity. My classes and trainings are designed to create a supportive space where curiosity is encouraged, questions are welcomed, and every individual feels empowered to find their own voice.

Over the years, I've learned that the greatest teachers are also lifelong students. My commitment to continued education allows me to blend traditional yogic philosophy with modern understanding of anatomy, movement, and mindfulness, offering a balanced approach that honors both the roots of yoga and the needs of today's practitioners.

Whether I'm leading a teacher training, facilitating continuing education, or teaching a community class, my intention remains the same: to help others build confidence, deepen their practice, and carry the lessons of yoga beyond the mat and into everyday life.

I believe yoga has the power to transform not because it changes who we are, but because it helps us remember who we've always been. It is an honor to walk alongside my students and fellow teachers as we continue to learn, grow, and evolve together.
